This strange looking cap is a good choice for a sailor and is based on contemporary illustrations. Firmly knit from thick pure wool and thrummed with short lengths of yarn before being thoroughly fulled, the result is a dense, shaggy cap with a surface that works a bit like thatch, keeping the head warm in even the foulest weather.

I can make these in any shade you like, I always have a wide range of undyed shades of yarn in cream, grey, brown and 'black' (v deep brown) in stock, but colours are fine too as I can dye shades to order. The thrumming takes a fair while on top of the basic knitting time, so please allow me up to three weeks to make your cap for you.
