Kilmarnock Bonnet -to order

£49.00
Sold Out

A hand-knitted Kilmarnock style bonnet in pure wool, heavily brushed and fulled (felted) after knitting to create a thick dense warm bonnet suitable for re-enactment/costume wear, and also extremely popular with Highland dress. Particularly suitable for Napoleonic period and Crimean regiments.

These hats feature a sewn black cotton headband inside so I can set this to whatever head size you require, and there is a strong black cord or ribbon run inside the band to allow you to make minor sizing adjustments. Please let me know your head measurement when you  order so I can set this properly for you.

Different regiments and datelines tend to request different height bonnets, currently many of my early period customers are asking for the standard height for these bonnets to be approx 6 inches tall, whilst Crimean regiments tend to want approx 4 inches tall (main image) but if you would prefer a different height entirely, just let me know.

A note on 'Rifle Green', this varies hugely between regiments, and I currently have two yarns available that work well with most uniform cloth. Pictured above is 'Rosemary', a dark greyish rifle green, but I also have a rather more bottle green option called Cossack. If ordering Rifle Green, do let me know which type of green you prefer. Other classic shades are navy, blue-black (main image) and black, but I can make most other shades too.

Made to order. The way our order book is currently working, we open the shop approximately once a quarter for new commissions and shut it again once we have as many orders as we think we can realistically make over the next three months or so. Please be aware that your order may fall anywhere into that timescale. We'll always aim to be as prompt as we can.
