Monmouth Cap -to order
Hand knitted in pure wool, this hat has been knitted double-thick then fulled to provide extra warmth (and excellent padding properties if you choose to wear it as a helmet liner).
With the double brim, loop and 'button' characteristic of the type of hat usually known as 'Monmouth caps', my interpretation is modelled on my personal inspection of a surviving example which is sixteenth century in date, but it is likely that similar caps were in use a little earlier and they continued in use for several hundred years after that date.
Medium to large in size unless you specify otherwise, the deep brim can be folded up if required. A wide range of dyed and undyed shades are available.
Made to order. The way my order book is currently working, I open the shop approximately once a quarter for new commissions and shut it again once I have as many orders as we think I can realistically make over the next three months or so. Please be aware that your order may fall anywhere into that timescale. I'll always aim to be as prompt as we can.
